A report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows South Australia's ageing population is putting a strain on the state's workforce.
The figures show a jump in the median age from 36 to 39 over the past 10 years, and suggests it could be as high as 49 by 2050.
The number of workers aged between 55 and 69 has also risen during that time, jumping more than eight per cent.
The report says if the trend is not reversed in 50 years only half of the state's population will be part of the workforce.
