Severe weather warning issued for NSW and ACT

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for southern New South Wales and the ACT, predicting strong winds and cold weather.

Meteorologist Jane Bunn says the temperature will be dropping down to single figures overnight and there should be a sprinkling of snow on Canberra's Brindabella's early tomorrow morning.

She said the change is due to a cold front moving through Victoria.

"The winds are slowly going to increase this afternoon, we're getting strong north-westerlies to gale-force down in the Canberra area," she said.

"About elevated areas it's much stronger and we're looking at 65 kilometres per hour and possibly gusting up to 90 kilometres per hour and that's in the ranges around the ACT and the alpine regions."
