Green makeover for SA schools

Wind turbines and solar panels will be fitted to 13 South Australian schools as part of a $30 million State Government green public works campaign.

The green makeover includes schools such as Flagstaff Hill, Gawler High School, Lameroo Area School and Walkerville Primary.

The Government aims to have solar panels in at least 250 schools within the next six-and-a-half years.

Education Minister Jane Lomax-Smith says the project is part of the Government's long-term plan to improve energy efficiency in all schools.

"We've had a target to put solar panels on 250 schools by 2014 and already 112 schools are part of that, but we've made a decision that every new major capital works initiative across our department will include sustainability measures," she said.
