AFP given extra time to hold doctor
By 7News & AAP
An Indian doctor being questioned in Brisbane over the foiled UK bomb plot will be held for another two days after federal police were tonight granted an interim court order.
Dr Mohamed Haneef has been held without charge for a week under federal counter-terrorism powers since he was arrested at Brisbane airport.
Australian Federal Police had until seven o'clock (AEST) tonight to hold Dr Haneef, but they applied to the Brisbane Magistrates Court to him for another five days without having to question him.
The case will return to the same court on Wednesday morning where the AFP will argue for a further extension to the existing order.
Dr Haneef is being detained over possible links to the failed attacks in London and Glasgow airport as well as his connection with an underground network of radical Islamist doctors.
