Petrol station robbed at Lakemba

Police have recovered stolen cigarettes and a car used in a service station armed robbery at Lakemba this morning.

About 12.30am, three males smashed their way inside a service station on Punchbowl Rd using a sledgehammer.

They threatened the attendant before loading cigarettes into a waiting Subaru WRX.

Police spotted the Subaru leaving the scene and commenced a pursuit.

It was soon after terminated for safety reasons but a short distance away they found the Subaru abandoned with a flat tyre at Ashfield.

Inside they found a large quantity of stolen cigarettes.

Investigators will use CCTV from the service station to help identify those responsible and are appealing for anyone with information about the robbery to contact them via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
