Kerang truckie breaks his silence

The truck driver involved in last week's deadly level crossing crash in Victoria has spoken publicly for the first time, saying he is grieving with the victim's families.

Eleven people were killed when a semi-trailer slammed into a passenger train near Kerang.

Christiaan Scholl, 46, issued a statement today to journalists.

"During my time in hospital I have been reflecting on the enormity of the impact of this tragedy on so many lives," he said.

"I just want to say that all my thoughts are with the grieving families and all those who have been affected."

He also thanked those in the community who had sent messages of support.
